Motion

Motion | 9th Class notes | Types of Motion | Rectilinear Motion | Circular Motion | Periodic Motion

In physics, the motion is the change in position of an object with respect to its surrounding in a given interval of time. The motion of an object with some can be described in terms of the following:

  1. Distance:- It is the numerical measurement of how far apart objects or points.
  2. Displacement:- the length of the shortest path between the final point and initial point of the body or "shortest distance between two points".
  3. Speed:- It is the distance covered per unit of time.
  4. Velocity:- The velocity of an object is the rate of change of its position with respect to frame of reference, and is a function of time.
  5. Time:-the measured or measurable period during which an action, process, or condition exists or continues.
  6. Acceleration:-It is the rate of change of velocity of an object with respect to time.

Types of Motion

The motion of an object shows its changing position. But varying object show varying types of motion. For example, a fan is said to be in motion though it id static in its place or a hanging clock that shows motion though it is hanging in its position. Motion is mainly three type:
  1. Rectilinear Motion
  2. Circular Motion
  3. Periodic Motion
